The lead plaintiff in the landmark Supreme Court decision, trailblazing designer, and luminary in the field of IVF and fertility join Family Equality in the movement for current and future LGBTQ+ families
New York, NY – Family Equality, the leading national organization for current and future LGBTQ+ families, announces that Adair Curtis, Jim Obergefell, and Mark Trolice, M.D. have joined the organization’s National Board of Directors. Family Equality’s Board of Directors is critical to sustaining, supporting, and informing the organization’s work to ensure that everyone can experience the unconditional love, safety, and belonging of family.
“We are thrilled to welcome such impactful minds, hearts, and talents to our Board of Directors,” says Family Equality CEO, Stacey Stevenson. “As we continue to face unprecedented challenges to our freedoms — from marriage to family to healthcare and everything in between — the dynamic expertise, support, and experiences of Jim, Adair, and Mark will no doubt prove invaluable. I cannot wait to get to work!”
As the organization welcomes Adair, Jim, and Mark, the Board and staff would like to thank outgoing Board members, Denise Hinds and Malina Simard-Halm for all of their contributions to Family Equality.
Adair Curtis is an esteemed interior designer, celebrated TV personality, and creative director. Heralded as “One of Nine Rising Stars Taking the Design World by Storm” by Architectural Digest, Adair is renowned for his holistic and elegant approach to style and living. Collected mid-century pieces, rustic textures, soothing tones, and bold works of art are hallmarks of Adair’s aesthetic.
Adair’s design philosophy is that everything in a room should be essential and the space should tell a story. This philosophy extends to JSN STUDIO, a multidisciplinary design and styling firm Adair founded, and his Netflix series, Styling Hollywood, which earned him a place on the coveted 1stDibs 50 2022 Honoree list and made him the star of Instant Dream Home.
While bringing his client’s vision to fruition is one of his joys as a designer, Adair’s greatest loves are Jason Bolden, his partner in marriage and in business, and their son, Arrow Fox.
In October 2022, Family Equality honored Adair and his husband, Jason, with the Visibility Award at their LA Impact gala. The award was presented following Family Equality’s work with Jason and Adair on a bubly water campaign, highlighting the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ parents.
Jim Obergefell, the named plaintiff from the landmark marriage equality case Obergefell v. Hodges, is a speaker on LGBTQ+ equality and civil rights represented by Keppler Speakers.
He co-founded Equality Vines, the first cause-based wine label, to support organizations devoted to equality for all. Jim is President of the WebQ Board of Directors, and he sits on advisory boards for the GLBT Historical Society and Mattachine Society of Washington, DC. Jim is a past SAGE board member and former Family Equality staff member.
Jim co-authored the book Love Wins, published by William Morrow, and he has written book forewords, chapters, and afterwords as well as essays and Op-Eds. He is also a producer on the in-development documentary series Just Married.
Jim has previously had careers as a high school German teacher, corporate trainer, relationship manager, software education consultant, and real estate agent.
Born and raised in Sandusky, OH, Jim returned to his hometown after living in Cincinnati, OH; Columbus, OH; and Washington, DC. In his free time, Jim enjoys photography, travel, choral singing, reading, and art museums.
Jim Obergefell is a longtime friend and supporter of Family Equality.
